Founder & Head of Curriculum
- Bachelor of Business Management in Corporate Communications & Marketing, SMU
- Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary), National Institute of Education
Esther is English Mastery’s founder and curriculum designer. As a former MOE English and Literature teacher with more than 14 years of teaching experience, and 7 years of curriculum writing experience, her work is to empower English teachers at English Mastery by giving them the right tools and training. She believes that a good English teacher is one who can deliver first-class instructions inside the classroom, and provide constructive feedback on students’ work outside the classroom.
- Bachelor of Social Sciences in Sociology and Corporate Communications, SMU
Teacher Stella is a vivacious English teacher who contributes to our teaching materials. Imparting skills and knowledge is second nature to her as she has taught in public events and workshops.
As she loves the English language, her goal is to help ignite her student’s passion for the subject. By making her classes engaging and relatable, she hopes that her students will develop a strong interest in writing and become independent learners. Her motivation to teach comes from the belief that her students are acquiring a valuable skill that they can use for the rest of their lives.
- Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communications & Psychology, University of Melbourne
Teacher Iris is an English teacher equipped with experience in the editorial department and marketing communications. During the time spent working in these fields, she has produced magazine articles and done copywriting work. The exacting standards laid down by these sectors have enabled her to understand the significance of word choice and the rewards of careful refinement in any piece of writing.
Beyond elevating her students’ writing and English skills, Iris finds it most meaningful when she can help foster the same passion for the English language that she has.
- Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting & Business Economics and Law, University of Alberta in Canada
Teacher Samantha wants to motivate her students to find the cohesion and confidence to express themselves. Inspired by her own English teachers in her younger years, she began her own teaching path by conducting consultation sessions as a teaching assistant in her University. As a mentor with AIDHA (a non-profit organization to empower female domestic workers), she has coached her students to learn money management and digital education.
She finds it most meaningful for each student to find their own voice to reach their full personal and academic potential. In her lessons, she hopes to guide her students to apply English fundamentals so they can express themselves on how they understand the world and opine on societal issues.
Who We Are and What We Care About
English Mastery was birthed from Esther’s vocation as a former MOE English and Literature teacher. She had dreams as an idealistic undergraduate of helping people and changing the world, and she thought what better way to do so than teach! Teaching is meaningful work. She cherished her interactions with her students and teachers in the community.
However, her teaching experience in school led her to believe that much more can be done than drills and the occasional group project. Motivated by a sense of purpose, she left the school system in 2010, started offering private tutoring, and began writing teaching materials for her own students.
English Mastery was incorporated in 2019 and originally operated as a tuition centre in City Square Mall. Now, English Mastery is online and offers live, premium small-group English tuition classes.
As Esther honed her skills in curriculum design, she also discovered great joy in mentoring and developing a group of like-minded passionate, and dedicated teachers who genuinely care about each one of their student’s progress. A good teacher does the hard and heart work. This is reflected in the caliber of their work and the extra effort they put into helping their students.
When you join one of our classes, we hope you feel our enthusiasm in helping you succeed academically. Along with first-class instructions and detailed feedback that we give to our students, we expose our students to local and international affairs in order to expand young minds to gain broader perspectives.
Ultimately, our goal is to teach you language skills that will enable you to navigate this human experience known as life with a profound appreciation for our infinitely large world.

Elaine Tan, Parent
My son has shown marked improvement in his English language even though he has only started tuition for less than a year with the tuition centre.
Frankly, I have my reservations of signing up for online English tuition at the beginning of the year given our prior experience with another centre. My son’s previous tutor literally gave up on him.
Fortunately we found a very dedicated and firm tutor in English Mastery. The small class size also allows teacher to monitor and supervise the students closely even though lessons are held online. My son has benefited from the teaching and it was reflected in his results. Kudos to the wonderful teacher and thank you English Mastery!
Amanda Sim, Secondary 1
English Mastery has nice and friendly teachers who are willing to help their students. They cover many types of exercises for us to practice and give us opportunities to train our speaking skills.
The worksheets sometimes also educate us about various topics like gender equality and racism. English Mastery teaches at a good pace which allows us to understand the content well without having to stress out.
The after-class workload is usually kept to a minimum which helps me a lot as I usually have my own school work too. I feel that I have definitely improved through their lessons.
For example, they have helped me to score consistently well for my summaries. Overall, English Mastery is a good place to learn and improve on your English speaking/writing ability.
Jeremy Quek, St. Gabriel’s Secondary School
Lessons are always interactive and engaging and the teacher makes lessons personalised to suit each student, so one need not worry about the disadvantages of being in a group.
The groups are also kept small so lessons are conducive.
I join the tuition class when I was in Secondary Four. I was a part of a group of three other students. I got an A2 for O Level English.
I am really thankful. As long as you are willing to put in the effort, the lessons will be beneficial to you.
We offer simple, transparent tuition fee structure for your peace of mind.
